It
all started with some leftover pepperoni hanging out in my deli bin waiting for
me to acknowledge them…
Seriously,
leftover - leftovers can be stressful, because you don’t want them to end up in
the “trash” (waste not, want not). And for that exact reason I am guilty
of creating entire meals out of a few leftover boiled potatoes. That’s
how I came up with this idea.
Have
you ever fried pepperoni like bacon? If not give it a shot, It’s a
keeper!
Pepperoni
on top of pizza always yields a greasy puddle that deems a three
layer thick paper towel to sop up the evidence before sharing it.
So I thought, what if I gently fried the pepperoni to release some (ok,
maybe a lot) of the fat before adding it to the pizza...
That
got me started on the idea of frying it like bacon and to my surprise pepperoni
crisps up just like bacon. Creating a literal pepperoni crisp that has a
kick of spicy just because its "pepper"oni.
If
you are attending a low carb party, place a random bowl of these out as
a novelty and you will be pleasantly surprised at the reaction.
If you want to kick up the experience, server these with a bowl of
ranch or some pizza sauce for some dipping action and watch your popularity
level increase.
I just discovered your blog and love your recipes! Although I live in Kaneohe, Hawaii, I haven't come across a collection like yours and must try some of the recipes, such as Jack's biscuits, barbeque chicken and the fried tofu.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried microwaving the pepperoni on paper towels for a minute to get it crispy, instead of frying? Works great! I do this for pizza which makes it less greasy and the crispy pepperoni adds to the overall flavor of the pizza.
Aloha Kaneohe. I was born in Kaneohe, my grandparents lived right on the bay where we would crab and fish off their dock. That was a long time ago but the memories are vivid. MAHALO for the kind words and the tip about microwaving the pepperoni. Enjoy the recipes :)
